Brickworld Tampa Announce

We are pleased to announce a partnership with the Greater Florida LEGO Users Group (GFLUG) and Orange [County] LEGO Users Group (OLUG) to create Brickworld Tampa.  The Brickworld Tampa Exposition will fill 40,000 square feet at the Florida State Fairgrounds Special Events Hall with LEGO creations, interactive activities, and vendors.

We are excited to include a Florida event in the Brickworld family of events.  It provides a wonderful opportunity for members of GFLUG and OLUG to showcase their talent and provide the fans of LEGO in the area with inspiration and education for a weekend, all while having fun.

Note:  This is a LEGO fan exposition, not a convention.

2014 Brickworld Film Festival
Posted on: 2014-03-19 9:16am

Submit your film to the third annual Brickworld Film Festival!

We're very excited to announce the third annual Brickworld Film Festival!
Last year, we invited attendees to submit their brick animations (or live-action brick flicks) and screened the 8 entries to an enthusiastic audience of over 160 people.
The event theme for Brickworld Chicago 2014 is "Candy, Sweet Escapes," so we're asking this year's entrants to keep this concept in mind when creating/selecting their submissions. We expect to see some films featuring the Ice Cream Machine and Downtown Bakery. However, we're also hoping to see other creative approaches to the theme; for instance, last year's winning film, "From Baking to Bad Guys," could easily fit in this year's theme.
Like last year, our Cinema Co-Coordinators, David Pagano and David Pickett, will carefully review all the entrants, and select the best one to declare the winner.  Additionally, an 'Audience Favorite' will be voted on during the festival screening.
Official Rules
  • You must be a Full Registrant of Brickworld Chicago to enter.
  • Your film must be longer than 30 seconds and shorter than 5 minutes in length.
  • Your film must be uploaded to YouTube.
  • Your film should use LEGO elements to tell a story. It can be animated or live action, or a combination of the two.
  • Your film must not contain any copyrighted audio. Bricks in Motion has a great list of places you can find royalty free music and sound effects.
  • Your film should incorporate the theme "Candy, Sweet Escapes" in some way.
  • Your film must not have been submitted to any previous Brickworld Film Festival.
  • Limit one film submission per person.
  • Films should be enjoyable by all ages. Curse words, excessive violence, sexual content, and drug use will be grounds for disqualification.
  • To submit, e-mail bwfilmfest@brickanimation.com by June 1, 2014 with the following information:
    • Your Full Name
    • Your Age
    • A link to your film on YouTube
  • A prize will be awarded to the film that best exemplifies the LEGO values of creativity, fun, and technical excellence; as decided by the judges.
  • An additional prize will be awarded to the film that receives the most votes from the audience at the festival screening.
If you have any questions, please e-mail bwfilmfest@brickanimation.com. We look forward to seeing your films!

Cummins Interactive Engine Build
Posted on: 2012-06-22 10:44am

Brickworld is pleased to announce the successful implementation of an interactive large scale build at Brickworld Chicago 2012.  Cummins Incorporated, a designer and manufacturer of large diesel engines worked with Brickworld to develop and deploy a 1/3 scale model of their QSK-95 "Hedgehog" 16 cylinder deisel engine.  The LEGO based model uses approximately 30,000 pieces and consists of 100 sub-modules.  Currently, 58 of the 100 modules are outfitted with instructions as kits, just like the LEGO sets you purchase in the store.  Children at Brickworld Chicago had the opportunity to construct a kit and add it to the overall engine model as an interactive collaboration.  The various kits were constructed and deconstructed several times throughout the event in the Cummins Interactive Play Area.  When asked about the project, Brickworld Executive Director and Leader of the Engine Model Development said "This is an unprecedented success for a LEGO Fan event.  Brickworld is very excited about how this turned out and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Cummins in support of STEM initiatives.  Brickworld's motto is Share-Learn-Explore-Discover and the engine fits into our commitment to education like a glove.  We want to thank Cummins for their support and hope that this is just the beginning of expansion into more educational efforts by corporations using LEGO products.  We firmly believe that LEGO bricks are not only one of the best educational tools, but also the world's most flexible art medium."

The build team for the Cummins Engine model includes Steve Hassenplug, John Brost, Austin Rumsey, and Matt Hassenplug.  Bryan added that "their efforts on the engine design and build were invaluable.  We only had 10 days to construct the engine before Brickworld.  These guys put in some long days to make this happen."
