Cummins Interactive Engine Build
Posted on: 2012-06-22 10:44am

Brickworld is pleased to announce the successful implementation of an interactive large scale build at Brickworld Chicago 2012.  Cummins Incorporated, a designer and manufacturer of large diesel engines worked with Brickworld to develop and deploy a 1/3 scale model of their QSK-95 "Hedgehog" 16 cylinder deisel engine.  The LEGO based model uses approximately 30,000 pieces and consists of 100 sub-modules.  Currently, 58 of the 100 modules are outfitted with instructions as kits, just like the LEGO sets you purchase in the store.  Children at Brickworld Chicago had the opportunity to construct a kit and add it to the overall engine model as an interactive collaboration.  The various kits were constructed and deconstructed several times throughout the event in the Cummins Interactive Play Area.  When asked about the project, Brickworld Executive Director and Leader of the Engine Model Development said "This is an unprecedented success for a LEGO Fan event.  Brickworld is very excited about how this turned out and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Cummins in support of STEM initiatives.  Brickworld's motto is Share-Learn-Explore-Discover and the engine fits into our commitment to education like a glove.  We want to thank Cummins for their support and hope that this is just the beginning of expansion into more educational efforts by corporations using LEGO products.  We firmly believe that LEGO bricks are not only one of the best educational tools, but also the world's most flexible art medium."

The build team for the Cummins Engine model includes Steve Hassenplug, John Brost, Austin Rumsey, and Matt Hassenplug.  Bryan added that "their efforts on the engine design and build were invaluable.  We only had 10 days to construct the engine before Brickworld.  These guys put in some long days to make this happen."
